Is MEXC Safe & Legit? 2026 Review

Updated August 18, 2026·6 min read

MEXC lists thousands of coins at some of the cheapest fees in crypto. That combination is great for traders and, understandably, sets off alarm bells about safety. The honest answer splits into two very different questions.

The exchange itself is fine

On the platform side, MEXC is solid. It has run since 2018, holds most funds in cold storage, supports 2FA, and has a big user base with no headline exchange-level breach on its record. As a place to hold and trade, it behaves like a serious, established exchange.

The risk is in the coins, not the platform

Here is the part that actually matters. MEXC lists new and obscure tokens faster than nearly anyone, which is exactly why altcoin traders love it, but many of those listings are early-stage, thin, or occasionally outright scams at the project level. A listing on MEXC is not a stamp of approval. The platform will not, and cannot, vet every coin, so that homework falls to you.

How to use it safely

Treat MEXC as a low-fee gateway to a huge market, and treat every unfamiliar coin as guilty until you have researched it. Turn on 2FA, keep positions small on speculative tokens, and never put in money you would hate to lose. Used that way, MEXC is one of the most useful exchanges out there.
