Crypto Bonus Trading Volume Requirements: Why Your Reward Stays Locked

Updated October 5, 20265 min read

You claim a crypto bonus, you see it in your account, and then you cannot touch it. The usual reason is a trading volume requirement, also called turnover or wagering. It is the most overlooked condition in any welcome offer, and it decides whether a reward is worth chasing at all.

What a volume requirement is

A volume requirement says you must trade a certain total amount before the reward, or the profit from it, becomes usable or withdrawable. It might be a flat figure like trade 2,000 USDT in futures, or a multiple like trade ten times your deposit. Until you hit it, the bonus sits locked.

Why exchanges use it

The exchange earns a fee on every trade. A volume requirement guarantees you generate enough fees to cover the reward they gave you, and usually more. That is the whole economic logic of the welcome bonus, which is why the biggest rewards live on high volume futures platforms.

How to tell if a bonus is actually worth it

Do the quick maths before you start. Estimate the fees you will pay to hit the required volume, then compare that to the reward.

  • •Required volume multiplied by the taker fee gives a rough fee cost.
  • •If that fee cost is close to or above the reward, the bonus is not worth forcing.
  • •A low fee exchange makes the same volume requirement far cheaper to clear.
  • •If the reward is non withdrawable credit, discount its value further.

The trap to avoid

The expensive mistake is trading more than you planned, or using leverage you are not comfortable with, purely to clear a volume requirement. The fastest way to lose real money is to chase a small locked bonus with trades you would never otherwise make. If clearing the volume means forcing trades, walk away from the bonus.

The sensible approach

Pick a low fee exchange you would trade on anyway, then any bonus whose volume requirement you would naturally meet through normal trading is free upside. Everything else is the exchange paying you to take on risk you did not want. We list the required volume, fees and whether the reward is withdrawable for each exchange so you can run this check in seconds.
